Discovery of Magnet
There was a shepherd in ancient Greece, he had a boy named Magnus. He used to take his sheep and goats to the nearby mountain to graze. One day, when Magnus brought his sheep and goats up the hill to graze, he sat on the stone.And after sometime, Magnus wanted to stand up and walk, then Magnus's stick and shoes stuck to the stone because Magnus's shoes were made of wood and iron nail is used to manufacture wooden shoes and the end of stick also made of iron. Magnus tried to separate his stick and shoes from the stone, but Magnus's stick and shoes separated from the stone and again stuck on stone, Magnus scared because he thought that this all work doing by ghost.And he ran away leaving his stick and shoes.And he told the villagers about his incident, but at first the villagers did not believe in Magnus.And then the village people went there and started breaking the stone with shovel and hammer, then their shovel and hammer got stuck with that stone too.because their shovel and hammer also made up of iron.The villagers were shocked to see all this and named that stone magnet by the name of magnus.
However,natural magnet was discovered. This all about natural magnet not about artificial magnet.
Artificial magnet was first discovered by William Gilbert in the year 1600 in England.He also know as the "Father of electricity and magnetism".and he also said that the earth is a great magnet.
Because earth attract everything towards it by gravitational force.
Artificial magnet are made of iron cobalt and nickel.
Properties of Magnet
1.Magnet have two pole (1)North Pole (2)South Pole.
2.Like pole of magnet repel each other, unlike pole of magnet attract each other.
3.If we break a magnet then each part of magnet generate two Pole automatically.
4.Magnets produce an area of magnetic force called Magnetic field.
5.If we kept an object such as iron in magnetic field area magnet will attract it.
6.Magnetic field lines always generate from north pole to south pole,as you can see in 4 Picture.
7.Magnetic field lines never intersect each other at a single point because if they intersect each other at a single point then they show two of magnetic field at single point that is not possible.
Uses Of Magnet
1.Magnet is used to know about direction(north, south,east and west).
2.Magnet is used to manufacture compass.(which tells us direction).
3.Magnet is used in power brake in car,train etc.
4.Magnet is used in electrical motor.
5.Magnet also use in many electrical device like (speaker, electric motor,etc.)
